The Problem It Solves
In a class of thirty, a hands-up question usually gets answered by the same handful of confident students every time. The rest of the room stays silent — not necessarily because they don't know the answer, but because putting a hand up in front of everyone is a bigger ask than just picking an option. A teacher walking away from that lesson has no real picture of who understood the material and who didn't, and that gap doesn't show up until test day.
A student response system exists to close that gap. It gives every student in the room their own way to answer every question, privately from their own seat, with the results visible to the teacher immediately rather than after grading.
The Different Ways to Build One
The category covers a few distinct approaches, and they're not interchangeable:

Why the Connectivity Question Matters
A response system that depends on classroom Wi-Fi only works as well as that Wi-Fi does, and in a classroom with limited connectivity that's a real constraint rather than a hypothetical one.
